
Strata Florida Abbey

Taken in the morning in February 2008, at NGR SN7463365717. This is a close up of the carved west doorway of this former Cistercian abbey near Pontrhydfendigaid, Ceredigion. The abbey was originally founded in 1164. The name Strata Florida is a corruption of the Welsh Ystrad Fflur, meaning Valley of (the river of) Flowers.
